ABQ Pride and APD

Thank you community for reaching out and making your voices heard. In January 2022, the Albuquerque Pride Board of Directors and Titleholders agreed the Albuquerque Police Department would not be invited to the Pride Parade. This was not only based on the social climate of the country, but also based on relations between the LGBTQ+ community, the Black community, and our dealings with APD.

We have reached out on several occasions in an attempt to open dialogue and give the community an opportunity to ask questions and demand accountability. APD’s silence has made it clear the department is not interested in open dialogue at this time. We again offer an invitation to APD to have a conversation on how we can work together to build meaningful relationships. Until such time that real change has been made, the department will not be at Albuquerque Pride events except in a legal capacity.

Due to recent accusations on social media, we have held a formal vote to put the community’s mind at ease. During the April 10, 2022 Board meeting, we voted 9-1 to uphold our decision at such time as deemed appropriate by the community.

We invite you to continue to make your voices heard. Please let us know what you would like to see APD change when dealing with our community. Email your thoughts to [email protected].
